The KWCRF was established in 2011 as the official fundraising organization for the Kansas Wheat Commission. The Foundation works to raise private dollars to combine with public funds for the advancement of wheat research including the accelerated release of wheat varieties.
Over the past half century, Kansas wheat farmers have contributed millions of their own hard-earned dollars towards wheat research through the wheat checkoff. However, the cost of research continues to increase while government funding continues to decrease. The Kansas Wheat Commission Research Foundation (KWCRF) was created to increase research funding above and beyond the resources of the wheat checkoff. And while the checkoff is paid only by farmers, the Foundation allows private individuals and all segments of the wheat industry to support wheat research through tax-deductible gifts. In addition to funding research, the wheat checkoff supports international and domestic marketing activities, and is NOT tax-deductible. Gifts to the KWCRF are used exclusively for wheat research and are tax-deductible.
The Kansas Wheat Innovation Center was built by the Kansas Wheat Commission, through the Kansas wheat checkoff, to get improved wheat varieties into the hands of farmers faster. It features 48,000 square feet of space and represents the single largest research investment by Kansas wheat farmers in history. The Center was built on land owned by Kansas State University; the Kansas Wheat Commission has a 50-year lease on the property. To schedule a tour, contact Aaron Harries.
